DJI Osmo Pocket 4 Launched - Upgraded 1" Sensor, 4K 240fps, & Built-In Storage

We love our Osmo Pockets, don't we? Well, personally I do. I have the original Osmo Pocket 1 and the Pocket 3. They're great cameras, especially the Pocket 3. Amazing quality video in a small package; a big enough 1" sensor for low light conditions, decent depth of field blur, fast autofocus, and a great wireless microphone ecosystem to boot. So what did DJI improve for the 4th generation Pocket? Well, its the same size sensor, they added two buttons under the rotating display and added a thumbstick, 107GB of built-in storage, 240fps recording in 4K, and... well they said the 1" sensor has been improved. Oh and you can attach a light on top of it. Good enough? Maybe. Check out the trailer video embedded above, or read up on the specs below and peep the purchase link.

DJI Osmo Pocket 4 - PHP 27,990 Standard / PHP 34,990 Creator Combo (Est. US$ 456 / 554)

  • Camera with Built-in 3-Axis Gimbal
  • 1" CMOS Sensor, 20mm f2.0 Lens
  • Maximum video resolution: 4K (3840x2160) 60fps (240fps Slow Motion)
  • Maximum photo resolution: 33MP (7680x4320)
  • Built-in 107GB Storage with MicroSD Expansion Slot
  • 3 Built-in Microphones
  • Supports DJI wireless mic system
So on first glance, its tough to find a major difference between the Pocket 3 and Pocket 4. I guess you really can't do much after the relatively perfect Pocket 3. But DJI did what they could: improve the slow motion to 240fps, added extra buttons and a joystick. Plus added internal storage. The newer Pocket is ever so slightly bigger by actual millimeters and heavier by about 10 grams. There's some in-camera beautification effects on the newer model, but that's mostly it.

Here's a link to DJI's compare site to see the detailed differences.

Thankfully, DJI isn't asking for a lot more money than it did for the Pocket 3. In fact, it slots in about the same price as the Pocket 3 at launch, and right now the Pocket 3 is around PHP 23k, so its cheaper by about PHP 5k or US$80. So you're getting essentially an improved version of the 3 for not much more money.

If you already own an Osmo Pocket 3, it might not behoove you to upgrade. And that's what we feel. We're going to stay on our Pocket 3 for a little bit more and maybe wait for the Pocket 5. Are you in the same boat?

Lastly, you can see the differences between the Standard Combo and the Creator Combo above. The Creator Combo essentially adds a bunch of accessories, notably the DJI Mic 3 and the Fill Light to give you even more control with creating your content out of the box.
