Last week, we were invited to the launch of HONOR's newest water resistant phone - the HONOR X7d. This time, we decided to create a short vlog about the experience. HONOR's phone, which we didn't have much time with - was front and center through a variety of pool activities which tested its water resistance. And even though it only officially has an IP65 Dust and Water Resistance rating - meaning it is only rated to resist some water jets - it seemed to be quite comfortable in a few feet of water immersion with lots of drops and movement. Don't believe us? Check out our vlog embedded above to see how we tested it, or read up on more specs and pricing information (plus links to buy it) below.

Aside from these numbers, the HONOR X7d is also rated for 5 Star SGS Premium Drop Resistance. And the sizable 6,500mAh Battery is supposedly rated to last 5 Years with at least 80% Capacity.
Two variants of the HONOR X7d will be sold: for offline stores it will cost PHP 9,999 and come with 8GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. While a 256GB version will be also sold exclusively online for PHP 8,999. HONOR claims with many online vouchers you can get this price down to PHP 7,299. And the 256GB of storage is more than enough for most people, so that seems like a good deal to us. Finally, until supplies last you'll also get a free HONOR Camping light speaker.
Our take
The HONOR X7d seems quite capable - water "proofing" wise. Of course, in regular use where you had to pay for your phone we wouldn't necessarily recommend taking it down waterslides and dropping it in the water and diving after it. But at least we know brand new it has that capability of surviving some water immersion - even if the IP rating says it shouldn't. Now, our limited experience with the phone doesn't give us any opinion with the capability of its 108MP main camera, its selfies or even the performance of the Snapdragon 685 - which is admittedly showing some age. It is also not capable of 5G Mobile Data - which kinda limits it's future proofing capabilites. However, that 6,500mAh Battery and HONOR's durability certifications on this device at least makes it a semi-rugged long-lasting device for the active user that's probably finding themselves drenched often. In fact, in retrospect, this phone seemed like the perfect device for motorcycle delivery personnel given the environment they work in.
So if you're in the lookout for a proven(?) durable and water resistant device, go check out the HONOR X7d at their offline stores or of course their online deal which - to us - seems to be a better value. Click the link below to be taken to their online store.
