DJI Neo vs HoverAir X1 Video Quality Comparison Tests (Part 1?)

Camera drones are great, but controlling them kinda sucks for the average user. Thankfully, last year HoverAir launched the X1 - a drone that flies by itself and can follow you. Without even the need for a phone or GPS satellite calibration and it deploys in literally under 10 seconds. I bought one late 2023 and been having a blast with it.

Fast forward to today, DJI launched their own competitor to the "AI visual tracking hand launch drone" product category called the DJI Neo - priced at only PHP 10,799 (US$190). It boasts shooting up to 4K 30fps, and full manual control with remote and FPV mode if you're so inclined. But does it stack up against the HoverAir X1? Watch the video above to find out, or read up on the specs below.

DJI Neo - PHP 10,799 (Standard Package) / PHP 18,999 (Fly More Combo)

  • 4K 30 FPS Videos
  • 12MP Photos
  • Single Axis Gimbal + EIS
  • GPS + Galileo + BeiDou location tracking
  • AI Visual Tracking Hand Launch Capable (completely controller free use)
  • WiFI Control via App Capable
  • OccuSync 4 long range drone control capable
  • FPV drone capable
  • Full Manual capable
  • 135 grams
  • 22GB Built-in Storage
  • 18 minute battery
  • 7km theoretical range
  • 8 m/s wind resistance (Wind Level 4)
  • No obstacle avoidance sensors
  • Uses AI Visual Tracking to avoid front obstacles

The DJI Neo offers interesting features at a great price, but the HoverAir X1 definitely shoots better video in our opinion - despite the fact that it only shoots 2.5k 30FPS. But, we think the Neo is a great drone still, since it is basically a gateway drug into manual control / fpv and enjoys a more mainstream presence in the Philippines - allowing for better support and aftermarket parts / accessories.
