2026 has been pretty crazy year for handheld gimbal cameras so far. In April, DJI launched the successor to the Osmo Pocket 3, the Pocket 4. Then we got zoom capable units with the Insta360 Luna Ultra and the DJI Osmo Pocket 4P.
But HoverAir was planning to get into the game and innovate with drone technology at the same time. A few days ago, HoverAir teased the Versa. A folding drone with a built-in 3-axis gimbal camera that flies on its own, but the party trick was that you can take off its "wings" (the drone flight parts) and it turns into a handheld gimbal camera to compete with DJI and Insta360. Quite the novel concept and aptly named the Versa.
Now, its still just a teaser. We don't know its sensor size, flight time, video resolution, price, and a lot more.
What we do know based on their teaser site is that it does the usual autonomous human tracking that we've come to expect from HoverAir; and it has some sort of 3D mapping technology. Your guess is as good as ours on that.
For now, it'll at least make some of us thinking of getting a new gimbal camera or drone think a little harder because this might be a viable future option. We got to say, too, that they timed the announcement quite well to make some consumers not impulse buy a DJI or Insta360 right now and wait for more details.
